To deepen your study, here is a list of cross-references that further connect the themes of 1 John 5 and John 17 with the rest of Scripture. These verses provide the "biblical backbone" for the plan, showing how these truths are consistent across the Gospel. [1]


1. Eternal Life as a Relationship

  • 1 John 5:11–12 & John 17:3

    • John 1:4: "In Him was life, and the life was the light of men".

    • John 3:36: "Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life".

    • Romans 6:23: "The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord".

    • Jeremiah 9:24: Explains that the only thing one should boast in is knowing God. [2, 3, 4, 5]


2. Overcoming the World

  • 1 John 5:4–5 & John 17:4–5

    • John 16:33: Jesus says, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world".
