We've Changed Our Name

We have changed our name!!!! Faith Community Church is now Good Shepherd Community Church. We are still in the same place with the same people. While Faith Community Church was a great name and has served us well, we saw the need to make the change in order to reflect our theological distinctives.

We chose the new name because it points attention to the One who makes our salvation possible - the Good Shepherd who laid down his life for his sheep. Our former name focused on "faith" - our response to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Faith is a necessary mark of all Christians - it is a God-given gift that we must receive in order to trust in Christ. So that is a great truth that we certainly affirm. Our new name, however, focuses on our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ - his past work of dying on the cross and his on-going ministry of guiding and tenderly caring for all his sheep.

The concept of the Good Shepherd is found frequently in the Bible (see Ezekiel 34:11-24, for example) and displays some chief characteristics of our Savior - he has come to rescue his sheep by laying down his life for them (John 10:15). He continues to provide for them, restore them, conform them into his image, and comfort them (Psalm 23).

The concept of the Good Shepherd is both simple and profound: a child can understand it, yet it also points to profound theological truths. In John chapter 10 we see that the Good Shepherd not only died for his sheep, but he enables his sheep to recognize his voice and he leads them and forever preserves them.

Our new name, we believe, is a winsome witness to the world of the true nature of our Savior. We want people to see our new name and reflect on its meaning.
